Final changes
For the Flora section I developed the idea to move some of the other spaces on the Level so that the rewilding zone could be larger. I felt it would work well with my idea as I want to make it as if the city is being taken over by nature. to do this I changed the shape of the skate park. I was thinking of getting rid of this space but it is widely used by the the community so felt it was necessary to keep.

Precedent – Melbourne University Car Park
From having a review of my idea and how I could add to it and the structural side of it, I looked at Melbourne University Car Park as a precedent. The design of the car park is using large columns which are smoothly blending into the roof. I am going to take ideas of this precedent into my design by using similar style columns as the main structural integrity of the seed bank part of the strategy.

Although the columns will be used for structure they also are special in how they are being used for the spaces above the car park.

As seen from this diagram the lower section of the design is the car park but within the arches of the columns trees are being planted. My design is all about biodiversity so I will take this idea forward in my design. The seed bank and other spaces in my project have rewilding zones on the roofs with trees growing. The seed bank especially, I want to have elm trees growing on top of so that white-letter hairstreak butterflies have more habitats. This precedent is helping to reinforce this as it gives a strategy so that the trees are able to grow to full size as the roots have space to grow.
Bat Roost idea

Precedent – Bat House by Ted Porter Architecture
For my design at the start I wanted to have space which would be creating roost space for bats however the idea wasn’t structured very clearly and fully sheltered away acting as the roof and architecture. Instead I decided I wanted to change this to have its own architectural personality different to the rest of the building. Basically I wanted to create a new city space/ecosystem on the roof.
This precedent, the Bat House has a really interesting idea where it is creating meditation between the ground and the sky. It is also creating safety for people and the bats.

What I love about this design and want to incorporate into my design is the way they have a glass volume where people are able to see and view the bats and biodiversity on the roof. And then the bats have a safe space to roost.
